New Route KMY using Nathu La  Pass Indo China Border
From Long time it was needed to get some alternate route from India as the Lipu La Pass route used by MEA of India for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra was regarded as more difficult as involved trekking or travel on horseback. This Kailash Mansarovar Yatra organise by MEA takes about 26 to 30 days and about 90% part to be covered by trekking which is difficult for old age pilgrims.
During visit of Chinese President Mr. Xi Jinping to India, Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi have specifically added point of alternate route for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra using Nathula pass border.
An MOU signed during Xi Jinping’s visit provides for conducting the annual Kailash-Manasarovar Yatra through Nathula Pass in addition to the existing Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand.
According to the MOU, the route through Nathula will augment the capacity and reduce the hardship and journey time enabling many more pilgrims particularly aged ones to undertake the yatra.
Unlike the Lipulekh Pass route which was regarded as more difficult as it involved trekking or travel on horseback, the Nathula route provides for direct travel by buses pilgrims to
Kailash  through well laid out roads and highways. But we cannot count is short route as it involve driving of over 1550 Km one way to reach Mansarovar from border, Comparing to this route it is better to use Nepal China border Kodari which is just 800 Km Drive to Mansarovar.
However visa process for KMY is unchanged as visa will be paper visa for groups only of which approval will be given by Ministry of External Affairs of Tibet Autonomous Region only and all services will be provided by CIPSC China India Pilgrim Service Center (Tibet) which may reduce entry permission for Private Tour operators.
Trial of this route is announced in March 2015 after trial and both India & China Govt. formalities it is suppose to start from 2015 for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra by MEA and may be open for some private operators with special permit.
